We are currently experiencing an opioid epidemic in the U.S. Opioids are commonly used as an ailment for pain. Unfortunately, opioids are addictive and can damage the liver. Chiropractic care can be a great alternative to opioids when it comes to pain management.
The opioid epidemic has shown that opioid abuse is at an all-time high. Long-term opioid use leads to shortness of breath, heart problems, drowsiness, addiction, sleeping disorders, tooth decay and overdose. The problem with opioids, although effective, is they can lead to a rise in tolerance for the drug, thus increased side effects.
Research that analyzed 33,000 cases of chronic lower back pain has shown that opioid use is decreased by 56 percent when a patient gets chiropractic care. Chiropractic care focuses on the the source of the pain by using techniques such as spinal adjustments to realign sublaxations and misalignments. Adjustments increase blood flow, restore function and increase mobility. This is effective in reducing chronic pain, which is why chiropractic care is commonly used for back and neck pain.
