A whopping 85 percent of people have visited their doctor complaining of chronic back pain. Chronic back pain is a common condition, but it can be caused by a number of different ailments, which can make it hard for doctors to diagnose the source of the pain.
There are a lot of different treatment options when it comes to back pain, but none have been proven to be the best of the best. What works for some people may not relieve the pain of others. Many doctors recommend a standard core that includes rest, exercise, and stretching.
Alternating heat and cold, as well as administering a pain reliever over time are other common treatments. Besides pain medication and common care procedures, there is not a lot that can be done about back pain. Some patients have sought the treatment of chiropractors or acupuncturists with the goal of relieving their chronic back pain.
Many people believe this is the most viable treatment option.
JAMA Network Open published a study on chiropractic care in 2018. This study is still considered the latest in treating lower back pain with chiropractic care. Researchers used 750 military personnel who complained of lower back pain for this study. Half of them were assigned to physical therapists, while the rest regularly visited chiropractors and received 12 specific chiropractic treatments. After six weeks of chiropractic care patients reported:
- Reduced pain intensity
- Improved functionality and less disability
- Satisfisfaction with the treatment
- Took fewer pain killers
- Felt no side effects
This study clearly supports chiropractic care for back pain treatment.
