Chiropractic Care & Massage: A Great Combination

June 16, 2016

Massage & Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care or massage? Many people believe that it is one or the other. The reality is that they can both make a great combination. This means that you don’t have to pick and choose. You can allow massage to work in conjunction with chiropractic care in order to provide you with the maximal level of benefits.

The Differences

It is important to understand the definition of a chiropractor. A chiropractor is a healthcare professional focusing on disorders of the nervous and musculoskeletal system. A chiropractor will often be called when there is pain, though treatment focuses on the underlying issues that cause the pain.

Massage therapists take a similar approach to chiropractic care, in terms of treating an underlying issue. However, a massage therapist is responsible for working with the muscles and joints as opposed to the actual musculoskeletal system.

Both chiropractic care and massage depend upon a holistic approach with potential changes to lifestyle in order to increase the overall effectiveness of therapy.

Why Both?

The benefit to using massage and chiropractic care together is that you will be able to experience a faster recovery that is more complete. The spine works together with soft tissue and the supporting structures in order to ensure proper function. When there is an injury, everything suffers. By using massage and chiropractic care together, it allows everything to be addressed and treated as it should be.

Massage will relax the body of muscle tension, when this occurs, it’s easier to conduct chiropractic adjustments. The body is relaxed and therefore an adjustment may be more successful.

Chiropractors also work to increase comfort and mobility. When a massage takes place prior to the adjustment, it helps to improve flexibility within the soft tissue and muscles, therefore making significant improvements.

Even circulation can be improved as a result of massage. It will help to improve blood flow and then the chiropractor will come along and remove the subluxations, thus relieving pressure on the nerves.

The next time you visit a chiropractor, you want to make sure that you don’t disregard anything. He or she is going to be looking out for your best interests and take a holistic approach in order to provide you with the highest level of pain relief and improve your overall range of motion. Massage is likely to be recommended prior to an adjustment so that it can be as beneficial to you as possible. It will give you the faster recovery you are searching for, and the adjustments will be easier because of your body being more relaxed.

The sooner you realize that you don’t have to make a choice between the two, the sooner you can start experiencing all of the benefits that exist from a combination approach.
