When it comes to headaches and chronic pain of the back, neck and joints people have the option of choosing non-drug treatments such as chiropractic care and acupuncture. Both are effective treatments, but do have their differences.
Chiropractic care requires no drugs or needles and is a hands-on treatment. The primary treatments of chiropractic care are spinal adjustment and spinal manipulation. For example, the focus of spinal manipulation is to restore mobility in the joints with controlled force. This works wonders when it comes to neck, back and joint pain. Also chiropractic care improves blood flow, mobility and flexibility and the overall central nervous system. One of the greatest advantages of chiropractic care is that it’s an alternative to any drug medication, which are known to cause dependence and side effects.
Acupuncture on the other hand does involve needles, thin metallic needles. These thin metallic needles stimulate body points by being inserted into the skin. This process is known to regulate body flow and is a very traditional form of Chinese medicine. Acupuncture is considered a great alternative form of medicine for neck, back and joint pain. The greatest advantages of acupuncture are strengthening the immune and respiratory system. It helps with sleeping problems and reduces stress.
Some of the disadvantages of acupuncture are that there can be some pain and uncomfortableness depending on the person. There can also be complications since it has to do with needles being inserted into body.
One thing being equal, many insurances do not cover acupuncture so that can cause a burden to the wallet. The same applies to chiropractic care, as there are a lot of health insurances that will not cover it. But sometimes the benefits and relief will outweigh the costs and we personally are covered by several health insurance plans.
When it comes to deciding which one is best for you, give them a shot and determine what works best for you. A combination of the two is possible and can be quite effective.
