How to Prepare for a Chiropractor Appointment

December 10, 2015 0

When you decide to make an chiropractor appointment, it’s important to prepare in the best possible way. It’s not always easy to feel comfortable, especially if you have never been to one before. However, there are some tips listed below to help you know what to expect and what you can do to ensure you’re comfortable the entire time.

Dress Appropriately

During a chiropractic adjustment, you are going to be asked to lie down on a table. You’ll want to make sure you are in comfortable clothing so that this is not a difficult task. You may also want to wear loose fitting shorts or pants as opposed to anything tight. You also might find that you are more comfortable if you do not wear a skirt.

Additionally, you may be asked to remove your shoes. Keep this in mind so that you don’t wear lace up boots, heels, or anything else that may be difficult to take off and put back on.

Arrive a Little Early

If you are anxious about going to a chiropractor, plan on arriving a little early. This will give you a chance to sit in the waiting room and read in order to calm your nerves. Breathe deeply, clear your head, and simply take the time to prepare for your adjustment.

Be Able to Define What’s Going On

One of the first things a chiropractor is going to ask is why you are there. Be sure you know how to answer it. Don’t shrug or give a vague answer because that is not going to help them help you. Be sure you can identify what is going on with your body, what body parts are in pain, and what hurts when you perform certain actions.

More information you can provide to your chiropractor, the easier it will be for them to assist you. They may order x-rays, but the majority of information that will determine how they give you an adjustment is based upon what you share with them.

One of the biggest things that you can do in preparation for a chiropractic appointment is to relax. During an adjustment, they are going to be manipulating and adjusting. Their goal is to remove all of the subluxations of your spine. If you are tense and stiff, it’s going to be difficult for them to perform their job. Relax, knowing that you are in good hands.

Take Notes

Be prepared to take notes after your adjustment. Your chiropractor may give you a list of things that they want you to do, or don’t do. Taking notes will ensure that you remember these things after you leave. If you don’t take notes, you may be so stressed or so focused on what happened during the adjustment that you may forget everything once you walk out the door.

If you are unsure about anything that the chiropractor says, or you want to learn more about the adjustment prior to getting one, talk to the office. The people at the front desk are used to dealing with people who have never been to a chiropractor, and they can ease a lot of your worries if they know what you’re worried about.
