When your neck or back hurts, an adjustment can do wonders. You want to make an appointment with your chiropractor to find out what is going on and establish a treatment plan. Today, most chiropractors focus on the short-term. They know you don’t have the time or money to schedule 30+ appointments. They want to offer you a quick fix to your problems and provide advice on how to avoid future injuries.

When you go in for your adjustment, massage may be incorporated as well. More and more chiropractor offices are beginning to employ massage therapists. This is because it can help to relax the muscles and make it easier for an adjustment to be more effective.

You may avoid a massage because of the high costs. However, it is often included with your appointment and insurance may cover it. It’s a good idea to talk with your chiropractor or your insurance company to find out what your policy is going to cover.

Sometimes, a massage may be exactly what you need in order to see an improvement. The muscles that surround the spine, particularly around the shoulders, can tense up. A licensed massage therapist will know how to manipulate the muscles so that you can start to experience relief. You may lie down on a table on your back, on your stomach, and even on your side so they can access all of the muscles in the best possible way.

It’s okay to have just a massage, just an adjustment, or combine them into one appointment. The massage comes first in order to loosen up the muscles. That way, when the adjustment comes, it allows better access to the bones. Everything can snap into place a little easier, which can help to reduce any kind of inflammation along the way.

Being sore for a day or two after a massage and adjustment is natural, too. It means that everything is starting to come together. Your body may have needed some extra work and the pain is the inflammation, which is under control. You can always ice the sore spots – and if the pain is still there after 48 hours, make another appointment with your chiropractor.

When you have some aches and pains, make an appointment with your chiropractor. During the consultation, it will be easy to talk about what hurts and what needs to be done. Don’t be surprised if massage is incorporated into your treatment plan. You may be told to come in for three or five visits, some with longer periods of massage and others with shorter periods.

Within no time, you can be on your way to feeling much better, and that’s as a result of working the muscles, the joints, and the bones.
