One of the main reasons you may be experiencing neck pain, lower back pain, and various other aches and pains may have a lot to do with your sleeping habits. The good news is that finding a good sleeping position can help to minimize the pain that you are in and allow you to space out visits to the chiropractor.

There are some other benefits to good sleeping positions as well, such as reducing snoring, heartburn, and more.

Sleeping on your back is one of the best positions for you. It allows you to keep your back straight and not force any kind of contortions. Your mattress will be able to do its job and support the spine. It’s also important that if you decide to sleep on your back (or in any other position) you don’t use too many pillows as that can put a kink in your neck.

The main disadvantage to sleeping on your back is snoring and sleep apnea.

Sleeping on your side can be helpful when you are pregnant, but that is about the only time. It can put a significant amount of weight on your shoulder because of the position you are in. It can restrict the shoulder and neck muscles and restrict blood flow. This is why you may in the middle of the night or in the morning with what feels like a squished arm and the sensation of pins and needles along your arm or hand.

Sleeping on your stomach is considered the worst sleeping position possible. It goes against the natural curve of your spine, which can lead to a significant amount of lower back pain. If you sleep with your head turned to one side the entire night, it can also put strains on your neck. This is why you may end up with twinges in your lower back or have a stiff neck when you wake.

If you really feel like sleeping on your stomach is the best way to get a good night’s sleep, you want to train your body a little bit. Use pillows to train your body to sleep on one side or the other. You may also want to place a pillow under your hips and lower abdomen as a way of giving the base of your spine a boost.

Ultimately, you want to make sure that you sleep in such a way that allows you to get a good night’s sleep. If you are constantly waking up tired, it’s likely because you are not sleeping properly.

However, if you are sleeping in such a way that it is causing shoulder and back pain, you should plan on making an appointment with the chiropractor in order to talk about your sleeping habits and learn about what can be done. Various adjustments can be made to help you improve your spinal curve. Recommendations can also be made to ensure that you are sleeping in a healthier way and getting a good night sleep so that you can be more productive throughout the day.
