When you are in pain, you likely work with a chiropractor or a massage therapist. Many people believe it is a choice between one or the other. The reality is that you have the ability to work with both. Even massage therapists will schedule appointments with a chiropractor from time to time in order to achieve all of the benefits that are offered through chiropractic care.

It is important to understand that what a chiropractor and massage therapist offer are different. A chiropractor deals with the spine and the joints while a massage therapist deals with the muscles. As such, it is possible to receive benefits from both of these caregivers.

A wide array of benefits can be achieved by going to a chiropractor. It is not only for back pain relief, but also for general wellness. The spinal column contains 24 vertebrae that allow for the body to twist, bend, and move. It also helps to protect the central nervous system, coordinates muscles, tissues, and organs. When there are at least two vertebrae not functioning together, it causes a subluxation, which can cause discomfort and ultimately pain and decreased mobility.

Visiting a chiropractor can lead to improved nerve communication, improved coordination, flexibility, and relief from pain throughout the entire body, particularly in the joints of the back and neck, legs and knees, arms and wrists, and shoulders. It is also possible to obtain relief from joint discomfort and arthritis.

Typically your chiropractor and massage therapist take a drive-free, holistic approach to health care. However, each provide an array of benefits. Throughout a treatment plan that is established with a chiropractor, you may even receive the recommendation of going to a massage therapist – and the same should you visit a therapist first. This is because they both have your best interests in mind and want to ensure that you are getting the care that you need, even if it means visiting another person.

Each understand where their specialties lie. It is also why you will often see a chiropractor employing a massage therapist. A good chiropractor is not going to deny the benefits that a massage therapist can offer – and the other way around.

What this means for you is that you can absolutely benefit from visiting both a chiropractor and a massage therapist on a regular basis. It can provide you with relief and allow you to enjoy a greater level of performance and physical function.

The first step is to schedule an appointment with a chiropractor and learn about the subluxations that you suffer from. An individualized treatment plan can be established and you can learn whether there is tension within the muscles, which can be treated by a massage therapist. Sometimes, the spinal adjustments alone can help to improve nerve communication and therefore help to resolve problems within the muscles and tissues of your body. You will be able to enjoy a more active lifestyle when your spine functions properly, and that will help enjoy every day a little more.
